In my second conversation with Daniel L. Garner of
focused on their book series Belonging Again, we discuss the structure of Belonging Again: An Address. Thus, this discussion builds on the first book discussion by exploring what it means to think and act from the perspective of the spirit child, as well as approach the challenges of scaling this dimension on the level of global society.Daniel L. Garner is one half O.G. Rose, a creative couple that has spent several years working collaboratively with other artists at Eunoia, a creative community. Rose helped develop, and now lives on a farm, manages a wedding venue named Mead Lake Lodge, and teaches piano using visuals from the DLG Pattern Method. Rose is also a finalist for the UNO Press Lab Prize and Pushcart Nominee, and their creative works appear at The Write Launch, Iowa Review, Burningword, Broken Pencil, and elsewhere, with published works on Amazon.
Throughout the video we discuss:
Belonging Again: An Address picks up where Belonging Again: An Explanation leaves off with the idea that there are no easy roads left; that we must walk a path between releases-restraints
How to Leave Plato’s Cave? Classically we think the prisoner must be dragged out, but who let Plato out? This brings us to the challenge of thinking intrinsic motivation
We need a new way of thinking, a new quality as the middle path between Christianity and Deleuze; a path that puts truth before Christ as a path to Christ (and not the other way around)
The challenge today of pluralism leading to tribalism is a result of rational coherence over truth of real difference and otherness; the other side is a real self-differentiation via failure as the condition of possibility of sublation
Higher organisational capacity in a unity of the absolute as system-subject, involving a multiplicity of subjects integrating their partial drives through existential error; the result should be self-reference as a gift to the other
We must enter the problem of scale with nothing but self-referential givens, which moves us from universality to singularity and back to universality through singularity (here we encounter the logic of A/B)
The problem of spreading “childhood” in new communities may not take care of itself (emergence) and might require intentional development/cultivation; how might spiritual childhood (logic of A/B) spread?
The importance of rhetoric and its relationship to discourse for communities of absolute knowing; the importance of free speech to avoid the problem of the reification of discourse
We must explore a dialectic of creativity and energy, which brings into the picture the possibility of a metasystem transition, as well as timenergy theory, to confront the problem of creativity and demand in economics
Without a dialectics on this level we risk a Landian posthuman reality that is unable to sublate the negativity of our present moment, which manifests in the deepest level in the problem of forgiveness (unnatural)
