Last month, David McKerracher of Theory Underground and I experimented with a co-presentation of the Introduction to Alenka Zupančič’s What Is Sex? I also wrote up an article inspired by our first conversation justifying teaching on this specific text, which you can find here: Why Read “What Is Sex?” Now we are planning to offer a second open event focused on co-presenting on the Conclusion. This event will be offered April 27th 7pm CET / 1pm EST. You can attend the live by using the Zoom link in the Community tab on Philosophy Portal at the start time of the event. This event functions as the last preparatory gateway into the actual mini-intensive course on What Is Sex?, offered in collaboration between Philosophy Portal and Theory Underground, which starts May 7th 2023 (early bird until April 30th).
This mini-intensive course throughout May and June functions as a type of initiation into the second major course offered by Philosophy Portal this year, which focuses on Lacan's Écrits. How so? What Is Sex? is a text written by one of the most prolific and insightful living Lacanians, and thus offers us a window into how Lacan can be thought actively today. Lacan's Écrits is one of the most important texts of the 20th century, offering us a unique window into Lacan's core theoretical ideas, and specifically the only texts that are actually derived from Lacan's writings, as opposed to his seminars, which should be thought as part of his oral teachings. If you are interested in attending both the What Is Sex? sessions and Lacan's Écrits, you can sign up for both at a discount.
Find both preparatory conversations/presentations for What Is Sex? below, and hope to see some of you in the live event Thursday April 27th, as well as the course, starting May 7th:
