This summer Philosophy Portal will be taking the summer off of our formal course. But we are still hard at work behind the scenes, and will actually be hosting some free open events under the banner SEMINARS FOR THE ÉCRITS. Our fourth guest is Richard Boothby, who will focus on the concept of Das Ding. Das Ding is a central and yet overlooked notion in Lacan's work, featuring prominently in Seminar 7 and "The Freudian Thing" in the Écrits. Boothby will develop the notion of Das Ding and demonstrate how it is situated in his current work on sexuality and religion. This seminar will also be preparing us for his deeper readings of Das Ding, inspired by the Écrits, which will aim to give the concept its proper place in Lacan's overall theory of the subject. The Seminar will be hosted Thursday July 27th at 730pm CET / 130pm EST, you can register here:
The seminars will be structured by a 30 minute talk by the guest, a 30 minute conversation with myself, and then as much as 1 hour of Q & A with our guests. For a playlist of previous Seminars, see:
Richard Boothby will be a guest teacher in the next formal Philosophy Portal course on the Écrits. The course will feature comprehensive lectures, live discussions with Andrew Flores and Nick Castellucci of The Vanishing Mediators, guest experts like Peter Rollins, Todd McGowan, Isabel Millar, and Richard Boothby, exegetical reading spaces with Dimitri Crooijmans, plus you will have the opportunity to build your own work towards a conference and anthology project.
