This summer Philosophy Portal will be taking the summer off of our formal course. But we are still hard at work behind the scenes, and will actually be hosting some free open events under the banner SEMINARS FOR THE ÉCRITS. Our third guest was Dr. Isabel Millar taught us about Patipolitics. Patipolitics is derived from the Latin ‘to suffer’ and inspired by Lacan’s notion of suffering as the other side of jouissance (excessive enjoyment). She claims that today we are no longer a society of Freudian neurotics but rather a society of Lacanian psychotics labouring under an incessant and traumatic injunction to enjoy. The seminar was hosted on July 20th 2023. The event is now closed, but you can watch the recoding here:
The seminars will be structured by a 30 minute talk by the guest, a 30 minute conversation with myself, and then as much as 1 hour of Q & A with our guests. For a playlist of previous Seminars, see:
Isabel Millar will be a guest teacher in the next formal Philosophy Portal course on the Écrits. The course will feature comprehensive lectures, live discussions with Andrew Flores and Nick Castellucci of The Vanishing Mediators, guest experts like Peter Rollins, Todd McGowan, Isabel Millar, and Richard Boothby, exegetical reading spaces with
, plus you will have the opportunity to build your own work towards a conference and anthology project. To sign up, visit: Philosophy Portal.
