Starting tonight at 7pm CET, I will be hosting the first of five Science of Logic pre-course sessions, in preparation for the Science of Logic course starting January 16th 2023. You can access the pre-course sessions via the community tab at Philosophy Portal. In the first session, I will be presenting, and we will be discussing, Hegel’s “Formative Moments.” Some of the important early determinations in Hegel’s thought include:
The differentiation between systematic logic of the understanding, and logic directed towards rational human interests (how to live?);
The tension between intuition and concept as it relates to feelings of unity, and the necessity of ethical laws;
Consciousness as the highest expression of nature as spirit, and conceptual reflection as differentiating spirit;
Spirit’s self-certainty in social unity opening differentiation, and logic as science of conceptual determination by spiritual work
