I think alongside this, women need to create a sort of maternal function/symbolic outside of the patriarchal one (but ideally in collaboration (and cohabitation) with the paternal) in order for the concept of freedom (and family) to come to full fruition. I think this is what Luce Irigaray is gesturing towards, though my knowledge is limited.
