I’m curious why so much emphasis is given to Pageau and Peterson and if you’re referring to something specific when you reference Woke Christianity? I don’t see a connection between them and emergent, but a kind of reinvented regressive religiosity as a response to perceived culture wars using the persecution framework found within conservative Christianities. Great series so far.
I really appreciate your thoughtful response and apologies that I can't make the gatherings live. Maybe one reflection that I would add to the conversation is that I see Pageau and Peterson as reactions to culture wars and how they perceive those as negative reflections of secularization and movements away from Christianity (rooted in patriarchy and whiteness) in Western culture. In this way, I situate them as reactions to Emergent and Post-Emergent forms of Christianity rather than heirs. Thanks again!
Thanks for your response, I agree with that. In many ways I am doing this work to point towards the ideas of Church of Contradiction that we will be embodying at Wake Festival. Just trying to make sure I cover my bases in following the threads of thought in our current cultural moment.
My wife and I would love to make it back to Wake at some point. It’s impossible to delve into it all, and I am admittedly critical of the Peterson, Pageau, Vanderklay, etc. expressions of Christianity, but I appreciate the engagement. 🤙
Excited to be a part of this!

Great reflection, I will try to respond to this as part of the opening for the second month.

Some good chunks of regurgitated stomach contents here to set up the next month of chewing!

It would be great to see some voices from the more radical orthodoxy & Catholic side of the debate—rather than just the emergent church movement.
