Philosophy Portal @ Wake Festival
Radical Theology Meets Speculative Philosophy in Belfast this April 27th to May 1st
Peter Rollins’ Wake Festival is a five-day transgressive festival that mixes the best in incendiary intellectual exploration with underground art, music, magic, comedy, and talks to forge an experience that embodies the destabilising essence of pyrotheology.
I have been attending Wake Festival for the past two years, both as a guest and as a contributor, to discussing issues related to radical theology and modern philosophy.
I am excited to announce that this year I will be at Wake Festival as a collaborator, not only as an individual, but as Philosophy Portal. I had the idea at last year’s Wake Festival that there is the potential for a huge synergy between the speculative philosophy that is being developed at Philosophy Portal, and the radical theology that is being developed by Rollins’ at Wake. In fact, part of the reason why Philosophy Portal developed a full course on Christian Atheism was to develop the conditions of possibility for making that synergy more real.1
Wake Festival focuses on bringing together a ragtag collection of dissidents, heretics, fools and fundamentalists from all over the globe who are focused on learning how to affirm life in all its dirt and depth. This year Philosophy Portal will attempt to add to that affirmation of life in all its dirt and depth with three full morning sessions inspired by our work in the Christian Atheism course. Below you can find the full schedule for our planned discussions, Q and A, and breakout groups at Wake:
